Beside the Mediterranean sea, in Benicassim (Spain) the 2026 31st edition of the Rototom Sunsplash<\/strong>\u00a0festival ran seamlessly, for 7 consecutive days, from August 16th to 22nd last.<\/p>\n Outside of Jamaica,\u00a0Rototom<\/strong>\u00a0is widely considered to be the premier international reggae festival. \nIn a novel format for\u00a0Rototom<\/strong>, the festival opened by placing the spotlight at the\u00a0Lion Stage<\/strong>\u00a0on the three winning acts of the \u2018Rumbo a Rototom 2026\u2019 competition. Sandwiched between DJ sets, it started with the sweet-sounding roots reggae exponents\u00a0Mountain Tops<\/strong>, followed by the versatile\u00a0Sotabosc<\/strong>\u00a0from Barcelona who put a Spanish twist to reggae with brass embellishments, whilst\u00a0Iyaman Pablo<\/strong>\u00a0(on lead vocals and drums) &\u00a0Irie Reggae Vibes<\/strong>\u00a0kicked in to maximum effect with a roots-fuelled set thereafter. These artists certainly serve to confirm that there is no shortage of high-quality acts in the local reggae pipeline! Whilst this trio were displaying their wares, the redoubtable\u00a0Dub Academy<\/strong>\u00a0announced its return to\u00a0Rototom<\/strong>\u00a0via an 8-hour extravaganza, with the aptly named\u00a0Good Over Evil<\/strong>\u00a0at the heart of the action.

\nDAY 2 – MONDAY 8\/17\/2026<\/u><\/strong>
\nCleverly positioned at the beginning of the festival \u2013 serving to bring the thousands to\u00a0Rototom<\/strong>\u00a0early – the newly named\u00a0Sun Stage<\/strong>\u00a0(formerly known as the Main Stage) played host to some of the genre\u2019s biggest names \u2013 with the\u00a0Skatalites<\/strong>,\u00a0Luciano<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Alpha Blondy<\/strong>\u00a0all slated to show. And show they did! Notably, the revised\u00a0Rototom<\/strong>\u00a0format now avoids a big-time sound clash, as it alternates the\u00a0Lion<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Sun Stage<\/strong>\u00a0shows, enabling both stages to attract large audiences, whilst ensuring that the punters miss none of the festival\u2019s bigger names.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
